Home and Destination Charging (0 -> 100%)

Charging is possible by using a regular wall plug or a charging station. Public charging is always done through a charging station. How fast the EV can charge depends on the charging station (EVSE) used and the maximum charging capacity of the EV. The table below shows all possible options for charging the Kia EV6 Long Range 2WD. Each option shows how fast the battery can be charged from empty to full.

Rapid Charging (10 -> 80%)

Rapid charging enables longer journeys by adding as much range as possible in the shortest amount of time. Charging power will decrease significantly after 80% state-of-charge has been reached. A typical rapid charge therefore rarely exceeds 80% SoC. The rapid charge rate of an EV depends on the charger used and the maximum charging power the EV can handle. The table below shows all details for rapid charging the Kia EV6 Long Range 2WD.

  • Max. Power: maximum power provided by charge point
  • Avg. Power: average power provided by charge point over a session from 10% to 80%
  • Time: time needed to charge from 10% to 80%
  • Rate: average charging speed over a session from 10% to 80%

Actual charging rates may differ from data shown due to factors like outside temperature, state of the battery and driving style.

Kia Claimed Specifications

The table below shows the claimed specifications from the manufacturer for charging the Kia EV6 Long Range 2WD. The specifications can differ from the table above for a variety of reasons. If real-world charge tests are available, these differences can be signifcant. If no real-world tests are available, the table above will be based on the manufacturer specifications as per the table below.

All about the Kia EV6 Long Range 2WD

No longer available

This electric vehicle is no longer in production and not available to buy new. The Kia EV6 Long Range 2WD was available from February 2022 until August 2024. Financial data like price, leasing and company car tax were applicable to the final year of availability of the Kia EV6 Long Range 2WD.

A new model of the Kia EV6 Long Range 2WD (2022) is available: Kia EV6 RWD (2024).

Pricing

The Kia EV6 Long Range 2WD had a Recommend Retail Price (RRP) of £44,550 and an On The Road Price (OTR) of £45,245. The OTR Price includes VAT, first year of VED, vehicle first registration fee, number plates and delivery.

Drivetrain and Performance

The Kia EV6 Long Range 2WD is a full electric vehicle (BEV). The maximum power of the Kia EV6 Long Range 2WD is 168 kW (225 hp). The maximum torque is 258 lb-ft. The Kia EV6 Long Range 2WD is rear wheel drive and can accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 7.3 seconds. The top speed is 115 mph.

Battery and Charging

The battery of the Kia EV6 Long Range 2WD has a total capacity of 77.4 kWh. The usable capacity is 74 kWh (estimate). An estimated range of about 255 miles is achievable on a fully charged battery. The actual range will however depend on several factors including climate, terrain, use of climate control systems and driving style.

For example: sustaining high speeds in cold weather could result in a range of around 180 mi. However, driving at low speeds in mild weather will increase the range to around 370 mi.

Charging is done using a Type 2 connector and the on-board charger has a maximum power of 11 kW. This charges a fully depleted battery back to full in around 8 hours. However, a 3-phase grid connection is needed to achieve this. The majority of homes and charge points currently do not have this connection. In most cases the maximum charging power will be 7.4 kW, allowing for a charge time of 11 hours 45 minutes and a charge rate of 22 mph. Charging the car using a regular wall plug will take around 38 hours.

Rapid charging is possible through a CCS connection. The maximum rapid charge power is 233 kW. The battery can't be charged continuously at this power. In an average rapid charge session the average charge power will be around 200 kW. This charges the battery from 10% to 80% in around 20 minutes. A rapid charge like this will add about 175 miles of range.

Energy Consumption

The estimated combined (motorway and city) energy consumption of the Kia EV6 Long Range 2WD is about 290 Wh per mile. By comparison, this energy consumption is the equivalent of a fuel consumption of 139 mpg in a traditional petrol car.

The actual energy consumption will depend on several factors including climate, terrain, use of climate control systems and driving style. For example: sustaining high speeds in cold weather could result in an energy use of around 411 Wh per mile. However, driving at low speeds in mild weather will increase the efficiency to about 200 Wh per mile.

CO2 Emission

The Kia EV6 Long Range 2WD emits no CO2 during driving. This only includes direct emissions from the vehicle itself. The energy needed to charge the battery might have been (partly) generated by the use of fossil fuels. Vehicles with an internal combustion engine will always emit CO2 during driving. Additionally, CO2 is emitted during the production and transport of fossil fuels.
