Home and Destination Charging (0 -> 100%)

Charging is possible by using a regular wall plug or a charging station. Public charging is always done through a charging station. How fast the EV can charge depends on the charging station (EVSE) used and the maximum charging capacity of the EV. The table below shows all possible options for charging the Mercedes-Benz B 250e. Each option shows how fast the battery can be charged from empty to full.

Type 2 (Mennekes - IEC 62196)
Charging Point Max. Power Power Time Rate
Wall Plug (2.3 kW) 230V / 1x10A 2.3 kW 14h30m 6 mph
1-phase 16A (3.7 kW) 230V / 1x16A 3.7 kW 9 hours 10 mph
1-phase 32A (7.4 kW) 230V / 1x32A 7.4 kW 4h30m 20 mph
3-phase 16A (11 kW) 400V / 3x14A 9.6 kW † 3h30m 26 mph
3-phase 32A (22 kW) 400V / 3x14A 9.6 kW † 3h30m 26 mph

† = Limited by on-board charger, vehicle cannot charge faster.

All about the Mercedes-Benz B 250e

No longer available

This electric vehicle is no longer in production and not available to buy new. The Mercedes-Benz B 250e was available from January 2015 until October 2017. Financial data like price, leasing and company car tax were applicable to the final year of availability of the Mercedes-Benz B 250e.

Pricing

The Mercedes-Benz B 250e had a Recommend Retail Price (RRP) of £32,660 and an On The Road Price (OTR) of £33,375. The OTR Price includes VAT, first year of VED, vehicle first registration fee, number plates and delivery. The Mercedes-Benz B 250e was eligible for a Plug-In Car Grant (PICG) of £4,500. The OTR Price including the PICG for the Mercedes-Benz B 250e is £28,875.

Drivetrain and Performance

The Mercedes-Benz B 250e is a full electric vehicle (BEV). The maximum power of the Mercedes-Benz B 250e is 132 kW (177 hp). The maximum torque is 251 lb-ft. The Mercedes-Benz B 250e is front wheel drive and can accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 7.9 seconds. The top speed is 99 mph.

Battery and Charging

The battery of the Mercedes-Benz B 250e has an estimated total capacity of 31 kWh. The usable capacity is 28 kWh. A range of about 90 miles is achievable on a fully charged battery. The actual range will however depend on several factors including climate, terrain, use of climate control systems and driving style.

For example: sustaining high speeds in cold weather could result in a range of around 65 mi. However, driving at low speeds in mild weather will increase the range to around 135 mi.

Charging is done using a Type 2 connector and the on-board charger has a maximum power of 9.6 kW. This charges a fully depleted battery back to full in around 3 hours 30 minutes. Charging the car using a regular wall plug will take around 14 hours 30 minutes.

Rapid charging is not possible.

Energy Consumption

The combined (motorway and city) energy consumption of the Mercedes-Benz B 250e is about 311 Wh per mile. By comparison, this energy consumption is the equivalent of a fuel consumption of 130 mpg in a traditional petrol car.

The actual energy consumption will depend on several factors including climate, terrain, use of climate control systems and driving style. For example: sustaining high speeds in cold weather could result in an energy use of around 431 Wh per mile. However, driving at low speeds in mild weather will increase the efficiency to about 207 Wh per mile.

CO2 Emission

The Mercedes-Benz B 250e emits no CO2 during driving. This only includes direct emissions from the vehicle itself. The energy needed to charge the battery might have been (partly) generated by the use of fossil fuels. Vehicles with an internal combustion engine will always emit CO2 during driving. Additionally, CO2 is emitted during the production and transport of fossil fuels.
